LEAVING INDIA
Exchanging Money Back into Dollars
You are not allowed to bring Indian currency over a certain amount in or out of the country. When leaving India, you can exchange rupees back into foreign currency. You may be asked to show your Encashment Certificates to prove you’ve exchanged money at authorized banks or money changers.

Airport Departure Tax
There is a 500 rs Departure Tax when leaving India. This cost is often included in the cost of your ticket.

BACK IN THE USA

Expect culture shock. Culture shock may even hit you when you return to the U.S. India is a very open hearted country and it can be an adjustment to return to a more isolated and constrained culture. Conversely, you may feel very glad to get home to your creature comforts.

Get a stool test. It's very easy to pick up parasites in India and you want to make sure you don't carry those critters around with you. See your doctor upon your return and tell him or her that you’ve been traveling in India and that you want a stool test. The most through lab in the country is Great Smokies Diagnostic Laboratory in Asheville, NC, phone: 800- 522-4762. They are expensive (check to see if your insurance pays) and it can be worth paying for their services as local labs often aren’t completely reliable or thorough

Finish all prescribed malaria medication. Malaria medication usually needs to be taken for a certain number of days or weeks upon your return. Follow your doctor's recommendations.

Group Rendezvous. Our group will meet one more time after we return home to debrief our adventure and share photos.
